What Would Your Mug Say?

What Would Your Mug Say?

A funny thing happened as I gave myself over to the idea of doodles on mugs..

What started as a simple idea has turned into a much bigger conversation.

It began with a question:

If you had a mug that reflected something you love to do, what would it say?

At first, the answers seemed obvious.

I'd Rather Be Fishing.

I'd Rather Be Gardening.

I'd Rather Be Baking.

I'd Rather Be Reading.

I'd Rather Be Weaving.

But the more I doodled, the more I found myself thinking about the people behind the hobbies.

Because hobbies are rarely just hobbies.

A gardener isn't really growing vegetables.

A knitter isn't really making another scarf.

A birdwatcher isn't really collecting birds.

A weaver isn't simply weaving a basket or a shawl.

A reader isn't just turning pages.

A baker isn't only making cakes.

There is often something deeper drawing us back

A chance to slow down.
A chance to learn.
A chance to create.
A chance to connect.
A chance to spend time doing something we genuinely enjoy.

When I think about the people in my own life, many of the things I remember aren't the big occasions.

They're the little things.

My husband has a host of hobbies.

He reads every day and usually has several books on the go at once. Most times when I go looking for him, I find him with a book in his hand.

Reading seems to suit him perfectly. Quiet. Curious. Content.
Unsurprisingly, his hobby list also includes birdspotting, stargazing and stamp collecting.

My sister weaves almost every day.
She speaks of her weaving with these words: "I weave, I breathe."
That's how much she loves weaving.
For her, weaving is a source of calm, creativity and self-care.

And my own hobbies? I enjoy writing and observing people.
(Does people-watching count as a hobby?)

Hobbies tell us something about people.

Not everything. But something.

So now I'd love to ask you the same question:

If you had a mug with your name on it, what would it say?

I'd Rather Be ____________.

And why?

I'd genuinely love to know.

Because behind every hobby is a person. And behind every person is a story

In fact, if you'd like to share your answer, your story, or even a doodle of your own, I'd love to hear from you.
